Secundus Maior Gaius Plinius citáty

Gaius Plinius Secundus alebo Plínius Starší bol rímsky spisovateľ, autor prírodopisnej encyklopédie nesúcej názov Historia Naturalis . Zastával hodnosť veliteľa časti rímskej flotily. Medzi jeho slávne výroky patrí: „Skutočná sláva má pozostávať v konaní robiť to, o čom je hodné písať, v písaní zaznamenávať to, čo je hodné čítania.“

Plínius bol synom rímskeho jazdca s cognominom Celer a akejsi ženy menom Marcella, podľa niektorých dcéry senátora Gaia Caecilia z mesta Novum Comum , podľa iných pochádzajúcej z rodu Titov Pomponiov. Plíniova rodina bola každopádne spriaznená po matkinej alebo otcovej strane s rodinou Caeciliov z Coma. Práve v tomto meste, nie vo Verone, ako sa niekedy uvádza, sa Plínius narodil. V Como bola Plíniovi postavená socha ako slávnemu rodákovi. Wikipedia
