William Wordsworth bol anglický básnik, predstaviteľ romantizmu - konkrétne skupiny jazernej školy.

V roku 1798 vydal so S. T. Coleridgom Lyrical Ballads . Wordsworth vo svojej tvorbe odmietol hlavné témy 18. storočia: vkus, pravidlá, formy.

Básnikovu obrazotvornosť vnímal ako nádobu múdrosti. Básnikovo nadanie tvorivou fantáziou podľa neho odhaľovalo vnútorným zrakom tú najvyššiu pravdu. Vnímavá ľudská duša totiž dokáže odhaliť, či rozoznať pravdu. A vnímavou je hlavne duša básnikova. Prvý princíp romantizmu: „Básnik je prorok a mudrc,“ teda Wordsworth spojil s druhým: „Básnická pravda je pravda citu.“ Wikipedia

William Wordsworth: Citáty v angličtine

“A simple child,
That lightly draws its breath,
And feels its life in every limb,
What should it know of death?”

“And homeless near a thousand homes I stood,
And near a thousand tables pined and wanted food.”

Kontext: And oft I thought (my fancy was-so strong)
That I, at last, a resting-place had found:
'Here: will I dwell,' said I,' my whole life long,
Roaming the illimitable waters round;
Here will I live, of all but heaven disowned.
And end my days upon the peaceful flood—
To break my dream the vessel reached its bound;
And homeless near a thousand homes I stood,
And near a thousand tables pined and wanted food.

“Faith is a passionate intuition.”
