„Svedomie je tvár duše. Jeho meniace sa prejavy vyjadrujú mravné jednanie duše presnejšie než zmeny vo výraze ľudskej tváre prezrádzajú vnútorné pocity. I vonkajšia tvár človeka je len odrazom jeho svedomia. Je pravda, že len veľmi málo z toho, čo je v ľudskej duši, vyžaruje z tváre: ale i to málo stačí výrečne hovoriť o svedomí vnútri.“
