Henry Graham Greene bol britský spisovateľ, jeden z najvýznamnejších románopiscov 20. storočia. Písal tiež poviedky, eseje, divadelné hry, scenáre, literárne a filmové kritiky. Nejaký čas pracoval ako novinár a určitú dobu bol dokonca zamestnancom ministerstva zahraničných vecí a agentom britskej tajnej služby. Jeho príbehy kombinujú epiku s morálnymi a náboženskými otázkami z neortodoxne katolíckej perspektívy. Témy jeho diel majú spoločného menovateľa v hlbokom, večne pochybujúcom, najmä však v oslobodzujúcom básnickom pohľade na človeka z hľadiska spisovateľovho základného atribútu ľudstva – svedomia.
