William Jefferson Clinton, rodným menom William Jefferson Blythe III je americký politik. V dvoch volebných obdobiach od roku 1993 do 2001 bol 42. prezident Spojených štátov. Predtým bol guvernérom Arkansasu.

Do úradu prezidenta sa dostal vo veku 46 rokov ako tretí najmladší prezident v dejinách USA. Bolo obdobie konca Studenej vojny a Clinton bol prvý prezident z generácie „baby boom“. Bol označovaný ako nový demokrat . Značná časť jeho politiky je označovaná ako stredná tretia cesta filozofie vládnutia. Predtým ako sa stal prezidentom bol dvakrát guvernérom Arkansasu . V rokoch 1977 až 1979 bol generálnym prokurátorom štátu Arkansas.

Vyrastal v Arkansase. Počas štúdia patril medzi študentských lídrov a venoval sa hre na saxofón. Študoval na Georgetown University , University College Oxford a Yalovej univerzite . Na Yalovej univerzite spoznal svoju budúcu manželku Hillary Rodhamovú Clintonovú. Ako guvernér prebudoval štátny vzdelávací systém a slúžil ako predseda organizácie National Governors Association.

V roku 1992 porazil v prezidentských voľbách G. H. W. Busha. Vládol v najdlhšom období mierovej ekonomickej expanzie USA. Podpísal Severoamerickú dohodu o voľnom obchode. Po tom ako v roku 1993 neprešla reforma zdravotníctva stratili demokrati kontrolu v Kongrese . Po dvoch rokoch sa stal druhým demokratom , ktorý bol zvolený dvakrát za prezidenta USA. Presadil reformu sociálnej starostlivosti a program detského zdravotného postenia . V roku 1998 bol obvinený za krivé svedectvo pred porotou a marenie spravodlivosti v prípade sexuálneho škandálu. Bol prepustený zo Senátu. Počas jeho posledných troch rokoch vládnutia, od 1998 do 2000, oznámil Congressional Budget Office prebytok v štátnom rozpočte.

Úrad prezidenta USA opustil s vysokou verejnou mienkou, najvyššou od druhej svetovej vojny. Odvtedy prednášal a venoval sa charite. Založil William J. Clinton Foundation, ktorá sa venuje globálnym problémom ako Aids a globálne otepľovanie. V roku 2004 vydal autobiografiu s názvom My Life. Ostal aktívny v demokratickým prezidentských kampaniach, napr. pre svoju ženu Hillary a Baracka Obamu v 2008 a 2012. Po odchode z úradu prezidenta ostal stále populárnym. Wikipedia
