Philip Kindred Dick bol americký spisovateľ sci-fi.

Svojím ojedinelým štýlom písania si získal miesto medzi kultovými spisovateľmi aj popularitu u kritikov a v akademických kruhoch, hoci spočiatku o jeho diela bol len minimálny záujem a Dick žil v chudobe. Jeho dielo, ktorého hlavnou témou je premenlivosť a nespoľahlivosť reality, bolo ovplyvnené braním drog a v neskorších rokoch aj psychickými poruchami.

Dick písal svoje poviedky z nutnosti, keď nemal žiaden iný príjem, iba uverejňovanie sci-fi poviedok v rôznych časopisoch. Počas života bolo jeho dielo neprávom prehliadané. Preslávil sa až posmrtne sfilmovaním jeho románu Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, ktorý bol sfilmovaný pod názvom Blade Runner, pod ktorým je známy aj román.

Svoju prvú poviedku napísal v roku 1951. Toto jeho obdobie bolo veľmi plodné, napísal skoro 80 poviedok. Jeho prvý science fiction román Slnečná lotéria napísal roku 1955. Potom nastalo obdobie, v ktorom písal romány zo súčasnosti. Po kritike americkej vlády dobrovoľne opustil Spojené štáty do Kanady. Zomrel roku 1982 na infarkt. Dickova tvorba je pomerne často námetom filmárov, väčšinou však ide o volné adaptácie poviedok. Paradoxom je, že sám Dick nenávidel Hollywood a nikdy nechcel mať s ním nič spoločné.

Vo svojich poviedkach obrazne opisuje spoločnosť ako niečo, čo „vymýva naše mozgy“, pretože práve taký názor mal na vtedajšiu vládu. V poviedkach vystupujú záporní hrdinovia, ktorí si podmaňujú nič netušiacich ľudí, ktorí im bezhlavo veria. Hlavnými témami jeho diela je premenlivosť a nespoľahlivosť reality. Wikipedia
