Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta , známa pod umeleckým menom Lady Gaga, je americká speváčka, skladateľka a herečka. Najskôr vystupovala v divadle a počas strednej školy účinkovala vo viacerých divadelných hrách. Študovala na Tisch School of the Arts, fakulte NYU, ale odišla, aby sa mohla venovať hudobnej kariére. Po tom, čo opustila rockovú kapelu z Lower East Side a odstúpila od kontraktu s vydavateľstvom Def Jam Recordings, začala pracovať ako skladateľka pre nahrávaciu spoločnosť Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Práve tu si jej spevácke schopnosti všimol hudobník Akon a pomohol jej podpísať zmluvu s Interscope Records a jeho vlastným vydavateľstvom, KonLive Distribution.
V roku 2008 vydala svoj debutový album The Fame, sprevádzaný singlami „Just Dance“ a „Poker Face“, ktoré sa stali medzinárodnými hitmi, nominovanými na cenu Grammy. Kontext: My ideas about fame and art are not brand new … We could watch Paris is Burning, we could read The Warhol Diaries, we could go to a party in New York in 1973 and these same things would be being talked about. I guess you could say that I'm a bit of a Warholian copycat. Some people say everything has been done before, and to an extent they are right. I think the trick is to honour your vision and reference and put together things that have never been put together before. I like to be unpredictable, and I think it's very unpredictable to promote pop music as a highbrow medium.
