Jean-Baptiste Biot bol francúzsky fyzik a astronóm.

Bol členom všetkých troch Akadémií. V roku 1804 uskutočnil spolu s Gay-Lussacom prvý vedecký let balónu. V rokoch 1807 – 1808 pokračoval vo francúzskom stupňovom meraní až po Baleáry, neskôr až po Shetlandy.

Skúmal dvojlom a polarizáciu svetla a optickú aktivitu látok , elektromagnetické pole, tepelnú vodivosť a tepelný tok. Formuloval aj teóriu chromatickej polarizácie a vynašiel polarimeter.

V roku 1820 ho spolu s Félixom Savartom preslávil Biot-Savartov zákon o magnetickom pôsobení elektrických prúdov.

Je po ňom pomenovaný nerast biotit. Wikipedia
