Janis Joplinová narodená ako Janis Lyn Joplinová bola americká speváčka, skladateľka a hudobná aranžérka. Známou sa stala koncom 60. rokov ako speváčka formácie Big Brother and the Holding Company, neskôr ako sólová umelkyňa. Pre jej spev bol typický výrazný expresívny prejav spojený so schopnosťou spievať černošské blues, na základe čoho bola považovaná za prvú rockovú speváčku. Zároveň sa stala pionierkou na scéne, ktorej dovtedy dominovali muži a jednou z prvých speváčok na ktoré sa nenahliadalo len ako na sexuálny symbol.
