Wilhelm Reich bol rakúsko-americký lekár, psychiater, psychoanalytik, sexuológ a sociológ. Bol študentom Sigmunda Freuda.

Pokúšal sa skĺbiť marxizmus, psychoanalýzu a kvantovú fyziku. Neskôr do svojho „systému“ začlenil aj jógu a východné filozofie, najmä čakry a kundalini.

Prijal Freudov koncept libida a rozšíril ho o sociologickú dimenziu z marxistickej pozície. Vytvoril tzv. sexuálnu politickú ekonómiu. Bol tiež presvedčený, že libido je energiou, ktorá podlieha rovnakým fyzikálnym zákonitostiam ako iné formy energie.

Neskôr „teóriu libida“ preformuloval do „teórie orgonu“. Dospel k názoru, že orgon má kozmický pôvod a nevzniká v tele, ale človek je jeho prijímačom. Zostrojil orgonovú komoru, kde ľudia mali byť vystavovaní silnému prúdu orgonu a takto „liečení“. Na princípe orgonu neskôr zostrojil i prístroj, ktorým údajne dokázal rozháňať mraky na oblohe či privolať dážď.

Ako Žid a komunista utiekol v roku 1933 z Nemecka po nástupe Adolfa Hitlera do Škandinávie. V roku 1939 presídlil do Kalifornie v USA. Po druhej svetovej vojne sa stal ako marxista podozrivým z protiamerickej činnosti a Americký úrad pre ochranu potravín navyše začal ťaženie proti jeho orgonovým prístrojom. Bol uväznený a po ročnom pobyte vo väzení zomrel. FDA medzitým dala spáliť veľa jeho nepublikovaných teoretických materiálov o orgone. Wikipedia
