Kanadským premiérom bol od roku 2006, keď jeho strana zostavila väčšinovú vládu na základe výsledkov volieb z 2006. V roku 2011 bol opäť zvolený za poslanca pričom jeho strana získala väčšinu poslaneckých mandátov v House of Commons. 4. novembra 2015 ho v kresle predsedu vládu nahradil Justin Trudeau. Wikipedia
