Muammar al-Kaddáfí bol od roku 1969 až do povstania v roku 2011 faktický vládca Líbye.

V roku 1969 stál na čele revolúcie, ktorá zvrhla líbyjského kráľa Idrisa. Od roku 1969 mal titul „vodca revolúcie“, 1969 – 1977 bol predseda Rady revolučného vedenia , 1977 – 1979 generálny tajomník Všeobecného ľudového kongresu , 1970 – 1972 predseda vlády; v roku 1979 sa vzdal všetkých oficiálnych funkcií, ale ostal faktickým vodcom . V roku 2011 bol zvrhnutý ľudovým povstaním, ktoré vyústilo do jeho smrti v Syrte. Wikipedia
