Klaus Kinski was a highly acclaimed German actor known for his intense performances and volatile personality. With a career spanning 40 years, he appeared in over 130 film roles and worked with renowned director Werner Herzog on five films. Kinski's roles ranged across various genres and languages, including Spaghetti Westerns, horror films, war movies, and dramas. He also dabbled in eccentric creative endeavors such as a one-man show about Jesus Christ and a self-directed biographical film about Niccolò Paganini. However, his career was overshadowed by his emotional outbursts towards directors and cast members, as well as his mental illness issues. After his death, he faced allegations of physical and sexual abuse by his daughters but continued to have a cult following.

Born as Klaus Günter Karl Nakszynski in 1926 in Zoppot, Danzig (now Poland), Kinski grew up in a financially struggling family due to the Great Depression. They eventually settled in Berlin where he attended school. During World War II, he was conscripted into the army, served in the Wehrmacht unit, and was later captured by the British Army in the Netherlands. Although he claimed to have deserted from the army before being captured and facing court-martial sentencing him to death (which he escaped from), it has been alleged that many details of his autobiography were fabricated. According to director Werner Herzog, Kinski actually came from a financially stable background. Regardless of these controversies surrounding his personal life, Klaus Kinski remains an iconic figure with a dedicated fan base for his acting prowess.
