Kálidása bol staroindický básnik a dramatik. Zaraďujeme ho medzi najpoprednejších lyrikov sveta.

Obdobie, v ktorom žil nazývame zlatým vekom indických dejín. Svoje diela písal v sanskrite a medzi tie najznámejšie patria jeho cyklus poézie Oblak poslom - lyrický cestopis na oslavu krás jeho rodnej vlasti - a Kruh ročných období, v ktorom opisuje striedanie ročných období v prírode a v ľudskom srdci.
