Jakob Bernoulli , brat Johanna Bernoulliho bol švajčiarsky matematik, fyzik a astronóm.

Spolu s bratom výrazne prispel v oblasti infinitezimálneho počtu. Zaoberal sa praktickými aplikáciami tohto počtu , matematickými radami, riešením diferenciálnych rovníc a izoperimetrického problému, a variačným počtom. Ako prvý použil výraz integrál. Vo svojom diele „Ars conjectandi“ významne prispel k rozvoju pravdepodobnostného počtu a objavil napr. pojem Bernoulliho čísla a Zákon veľkých čísiel . Wikipedia

Gravestone marker (1705) referring to the , which remains the same after mathematical transformations. He considered it a symbol of resurrection. Bernoulli wanted the logarithmic Spira mirabilis, "the marvelous spiral," engraved on his headstone, but an Archimedean spiral was placed there instead.
