Daniel Kahneman je izraelsko-americký psychológ, ktorý pôsobí ako profesor na Princentonskej univerzite. Je nositeľom Ceny Švédskej ríšskej banky za ekonomické vedy na pamiatku Alfreda Nobela za rok 2002 za prínos v oblasti integrovania poznatkov z psychologického výskumu do ekonomických vied, a to najmä poznatkov o ľudskom úsudku a rozhodovania za neistoty. Spolu s Tverskym poukázali na to, že model racionálneho rozhodovania formulovaného Morgesternom je potrebné považovať za normatívny. Ako alternatívu k nemu nastolili deskriptívnu teóriu známu pod názvom prospektová teória . Je založená na niekoľkých charakteristikách pozorovaných v praxi, ktoré popierajú racionalitu v rozhodovaní.
