Clifford Lee Burton , známy ako Cliff Burton, bol americký basgitarista, najznámejší ako člen thrash metalovej skupiny Metallica.

Ku kapele sa pripojil v roku 1982 ako náhrada za Rona McGovneyho. Prvý album, ktorý s nimi nahral bol Kill ’Em All a prvý koncert absolvoval 5. marca 1983 v San Franciscu. Ďalšie dva albumy, Ride The Lightning a Master of Puppets, sa stretli nielen s veľkým úspechom u ľudí, ale aj u kritiky. Bol známy svojim špecifickým poňatím basy ako sólového nástroja, keď basgitara bola sólovým nástrojom, ale udržala si aj harmonickú a rytmickú úlohu v kapele. Dodnes je považovaný za najlepšieho basgitaristu skupiny.

Zomrel dňa 27. septembra 1986, keď v severnom Švédsku autobus skupiny dostal šmyk a prevrátil sa. Burton bol uvedený do siene slávy Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ako člen Metallicy 4. apríla 2009. Wikipedia
