„We believe in each other, that's enough for me.“

— Freddie Mercury British singer, songwriter and record producer 1946 - 1991
Context: All my lovers asked me why they couldn't replace Mary, but it's simply impossible. The only friend I've got is Mary and I don't want anybody else. To me, she was my common-law wife. To me, it was a marriage. We believe in each other, that's enough for me. „Very few things happen at the right time, and the rest do not happen at all. The conscientious historian will correct these defects.“

—  Herodotus ancient Greek historian, often considered as the first historian -484 - -425 pr. n. l.
This statement is not to be found in the works of Herodotus. It appears in the acknowledgements to Mark Twain's A Horse's Tale (1907) preceded by the words "Herodotus says", but Twain was simply summarizing what he took to be Herodotus' attitude to historiography.
